The Atelier Take
A premium business card with very little homework, provided the business books at least one trip a year through Capital One Business Travel and pays the balance in full.
Who it suits
Owners who want one card that earns 2x on everything, including large expenses that miss other cards’ bonus categories, with lounge access at a fee well below the Amex and Chase premium cards. It works best for a business that books at least one trip a year through Capital One Business Travel and can put $30,000 on the card in 3 months for the bonus.
Who should skip it
Businesses whose spending is concentrated in advertising, shipping or software, where cards with bonus categories earn more on the same money. Also anyone who expects to carry a balance: the card is designed to be paid in full, and the portion that can be carried costs 25.99% variable APR.
Every credit, and the catch
Two benefits do most of the work: the $300 travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles. Together they exceed the $395 fee for a business that books one trip a year through Capital One Business Travel.
Capital One Business Travel credit
Up to $300 a year
Only bookings through Capital One Business Travel count. Each year’s credit expires at the next account anniversary, and the credited amount earns no miles.
Anniversary bonus
10,000 miles a year
Capital One puts these at $100 toward travel; transferred to partners they can be worth more.
Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
Up to $120 every 4 years
One credit per account, for whichever application fee is charged first.
Premier Collection experience credit
$100 per stay
Only Premier Collection hotels and rentals booked through Capital One Business Travel; the Lifestyle Collection gives $50 per stay instead.
What it earns
Rewards: Capital One miles, which transfer to 22 airline and hotel programs, most at 1:1, or cover travel purchases at 1¢ each.

No caps and no categories to track
TPG values Capital One miles at 1.85¢ each when transferred to partners, so 2x returns about 3.7¢ per dollar. Used to cover travel purchases, a mile is worth 1¢. Purchases paid for with the travel credit earn no miles, and hotel incidentals earn 2x.
Lounges, transfers and other benefits
Capital One Lounges and Landings
Free for the primary cardholder. Guests pay $45 each (18 and older) or $25 (17 and under); children under two are free. After $75,000 of purchases on the account in a calendar year, up to 2 guests are free at Capital One Lounges and 1 at Landings.
Priority Pass
1,300+ lounges for the primary cardholder, once enrolled, with up to 2 guests free per visit; further guests pay $35 each. On the personal Venture X, every Priority Pass guest pays.
Lounges for employee cardholders
Not included. Lounge access costs $125 a year per additional cardholder, for up to 4 of them. Employee cards without lounge access are free.
Transfer partners
18 airlines and 4 hotel programs, per Capital One’s transfer page. Most airlines transfer at 1:1, including Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways Club, Flying Blue, Qatar Privilege Club, Singapore KrisFlyer and Turkish Miles&Smiles; Emirates, EVA Air and Japan Airlines at 2:1.5; JetBlue at 5:3. Hotels: Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards at 1:1, I Prefer at 1:2, Accor at 2:1. Minimum transfer 1,000 miles.
Premier Collection hotels
On bookings through Capital One Business Travel: a $100 experience credit, daily breakfast for two, Wi-Fi, and a room upgrade, early check-in and late checkout when available.
Hertz President’s Circle
Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status, once enrolled through the Capital One website or app.
How payment works
No preset spending limit. Purchases up to a Pay Over Time limit set by Capital One can be carried at 25.99% variable APR; anything above it is due in full each month. A late payment costs 2.99% of the unpaid minimum.
Capital One Business Travel
A booking tool with travel policies, administrators and spend tracking for the business, included at no cost.
Will the $395 fee pay off?
Enter what would go on this card. The result values points at TPG’s valuation, adds the credits that would actually be used and, in year one, the welcome offer, then sets the total against a no-fee card that pays 2% back on everything.

2 · Credits that would be used

When the travel credit is ticked, the first $300 booked through Capital One Business Travel is treated as covered by it and earns no miles, as Capital One’s terms say.

The result
Not counted: lounge access for the cardholder and free Priority Pass guests, Premier and Lifestyle Collection benefits, Hertz President’s Circle status and the insurance.
Insurance and protections
World Elite Mastercard for Business benefits, from the Guide to Benefits that Capital One links for the Venture X Business. The card page itself lists only extended warranty. The guide includes no trip delay cover. Pay for the trip, rental or purchase with the card to be covered.
Auto rental collision damage
The guide’s conditions require the car to be rented primarily for business purposes, in the cardholder’s own name, paid in full with the card, for 31 days or less; those rentals are covered on a primary basis for theft and damage. The guide sets no fixed dollar cap on the vehicle (it pays the lesser of repair cost or actual cash value); loss-of-use charges up to $500, personal effects up to $1,000 per person and $2,000 per rental. Not available in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, Australia, Italy or New Zealand.
Trip cancellation and interruption
Up to $1,500 per covered trip and $5,000 per account per 12 months, for non-refundable common carrier fares paid with the card, when illness, injury or death cancels or cuts short the trip.
Baggage delay
$100 a day for up to 3 days ($300) for essentials when checked bags are delayed more than 4 hours.
Lost or damaged luggage

Extended warranty
Doubles manufacturer warranties of 5 years or less, adding up to 12 months; up to $10,000 per item.
Price protection
Up to $500 per item and $2,500 a year when an identical item is advertised for less within 60 days of purchase.
Rideshare protection
Up to $750 per trip for personal items lost or stolen in a rideshare vehicle, after a $100 deductible; 2 claims and $1,500 per 12 months.
