Hyatt Brand Explorer: five brands, one free night worth up to 25,000 points

World of Hyatt pays members for variety. Stay at five different Hyatt brands and the program issues a free night at a Category 1–4 hotel. Stay at five more brands that are new to the account and it issues another. There is no deadline: brands count over the lifetime of the membership, so stays from past years already count.

What counts

  • Paid, points and free-night stays all count: an eligible paid rate, a points booking, or a night booked with a free night award.
  • One night is enough to tick a brand off. Further stays at a brand already counted don’t add to the total.
  • The hotel must be in World of Hyatt at the time of the stay.
  • Collections count once each. Two different JdV by Hyatt hotels, or two Unbound Collection hotels, count as one brand.
  • Book with Hyatt. Stays booked through online travel agencies usually don’t earn World of Hyatt credit, so they don’t count either.

Thirty-eight brands means seven free nights for anyone who stays at 35 of them, with three left over. The account’s Brand Explorer page shows which brands are already ticked off.

What the free night is worth

The award covers one standard room at any Category 1–4 hotel, on any date a standard room is available at the standard rate, with no blackout dates, according to Hyatt’s terms. Hyatt’s chart prices those hotels from 3,000 to 25,000 points a night, so the same certificate can be worth very different amounts.

  • Aim for Category 4 on a busy date. That is where the certificate replaces the most points.
  • All-inclusive resorts and Miraval are out. They price on separate charts, so a Category 1–4 award doesn’t reach them, even though stays there count toward the five brands.
  • Watch the expiry. The award is valid for 12 months from the day it’s issued; the date shows in the account.
  • Categories move every year. A Category 4 hotel that moves up to Category 5 drops out of the certificate’s reach.

Quick tip

Spend the free night at a brand not yet on the list. Nights booked with a free night award count, so the certificate also moves the count toward the next one.

The Atelier Take

A quiet perk worth steering toward. When two Hyatt hotels in the same city look alike, pick the brand not yet counted: the next free night arrives without spending anything extra.
