Amex may soon require two-night stays for the Platinum hotel credit. Plus Hyatt points sharing goes online, Hyatt stays earn Aeroplan points, and an Aeroplan points sale.
Amex may soon require two-night stays for the Platinum Card's hotel credit, Hyatt points can reportedly move between members online from today, and Hyatt stays now earn Aeroplan points.
The lead
Amex may make the Platinum hotel credit harder to use
American Express appears to be preparing a change to one of the Platinum Card's most-used perks. Early reports, based on wording spotted on an Amex test website, suggest that from Jan 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings would need a stay of at least two nights to earn the card's hotel credit. Nothing has been announced. Amex's own Platinum Card page still describes the credit as it works today: up to $300 back in each half of the year, up to $600 a year, on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings through Amex Travel, with only The Hotel Collection requiring two nights.
The same test-site wording reportedly renames it a Lodging Credit and adds Airbnb Luxe stays, alongside the $250 Airbnb Experiences credit reported earlier this week.
The math shows why it matters. A $450 one-night stay at a Fine Hotels + Resorts property costs $150 after the $300 credit today. With a two-night minimum, the same hotel becomes a $900 booking, and the credit covers a third of it.
Do this now: if a single night would use the July-to-December credit, book it as a prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts stay through Amex Travel before Dec 31. Don't count on a booking made now protecting a one-night stay in 2027; the reports don't say it would.
The Atelier Take: Nothing has changed yet. Platinum holders who like one-night stays should use this half's credit on one before Dec 31, and wait for Amex to confirm before planning 2027.
Also worth knowing
Hyatt members can reportedly send each other points online from today
World of Hyatt said in February that members would be able to share points digitally later this year, and several reports say that arrives today, Oct 15. Until now, moving points between two members meant emailing a form to Hyatt. A Hyatt representative reportedly put the yearly limit at 525,000 points sent and 525,000 received; full terms are expected with the launch. Double-check the other member's number before sending. Hyatt stays now earn Aeroplan points, and Hyatt elites get an Air Canada status shortcut
Link a World of Hyatt and an Aeroplan account and register by Nov 11 to earn 1.5 Aeroplan points per US dollar on eligible paid Hyatt stays, on top of the usual Hyatt points, for stays completed by Feb 14, 2027. A $1,000 stay earns 5,000 Hyatt points plus 1,500 Aeroplan points. Separately, Explorists and Globalists can take a 90-day Aeroplan status challenge: 8,000 status qualifying credits, earned at 4 per dollar on Economy Flex fares or higher, unlock Aeroplan 25K, and Globalists can reach up to 75K. The 90 days start when you register, so register only once the Air Canada trips are booked. Status lasts until Jan 31 of the second year after registering, so registering in 2027 runs it to Jan 31, 2029. Air Canada's challenge terms.
Aeroplan appears to be selling points with a bonus of up to 90%
Aeroplan's latest points sale reportedly runs through Oct 29, with the bonus rising from 50% to 90% as the purchase grows; the top tier starts at 80,000 points bought and works out to about 1.38 US cents a point. Targeted: the bonus shown in your Aeroplan account may differ. Buy only for a specific award already priced, since bought points can't be returned. Not yet announced officially.
