United reportedly drops flight counts from 2027 status, and 1K would rise to 32,000 PQP. Plus: Blue Business Plus as high as 50,000 points, and a Platinum credit rumor.

United reportedly rewrites the path to 2027 status, Amex's no-fee business card appears to show a richer offer for some applicants, and a Platinum rumor is worth watching.

The lead

United reportedly drops flight counts from Premier status in 2027; 1K would rise to 32,000 PQP

From 2027, United Premier status reportedly comes down to one number: Premier Qualifying Points, earned mainly on United fares and on United co-branded card spend. Premier Qualifying Flights reportedly stop counting, so the path that paired a flight count with a lower PQP total goes away. The thresholds are reported as 6,000 PQP for Silver, 12,000 for Gold and 18,000 for Platinum (all unchanged), and 32,000 for 1K, up from 28,000. Members would still need at least four United or United Express flights in the year.

Run the numbers. A 1K member who qualified this year with 60 flights and 22,000 PQP needs 32,000 PQP in 2027: 10,000 more, or about 45% more. On the United Club card, which reportedly earns 1 PQP per $15 spent, closing that gap with spend alone takes $150,000 on the card. Reaching Platinum on card spend alone would take $270,000.

Early reports also suggest eligible United cardholders get a head start of 5% of their tier's requirement, and that opening an eligible card by December 31, 2026 qualifies for it. Check the terms on United's own site before opening a card for this.

Do this now: look at your 2026 PQP total in the United app, not your flight count. If your status has relied on segments, price your 2027 travel in PQP before committing more of it to United.

The Atelier Take: Segment-heavy flyers on cheap fares lose their shortcut. If 1K depended on flight counts, price 2027 against Delta or American before committing.

Amex Blue Business Plus: welcome offer as high as 50,000 points for some applicants

Amex appears to be showing some applicants a welcome offer as high as 50,000 Membership Rewards points on the Blue Business Plus, reportedly after $5,000 in purchases in the first three months. Targeted: check the offer on your own application page; yours may differ. The card has no annual fee and earns 2X points on the first $50,000 of eligible purchases each calendar year, then 1X. At TPG's value of 2 cents a point, 50,000 points is worth about $1,000 in travel. No end date has been given. Blue Business Plus at American Express

Amex Platinum may be adding a $250 Airbnb Experiences credit

Early reports suggest Amex is preparing a $250 credit for Airbnb Experiences on the Platinum Card, based on a sighting on a test version of Amex's site shared in a card forum. The amount, timing and enrollment rules could change before anything launches. The card's annual fee is $895, and any new credit would add to its value only if Airbnb Experiences are something you book. Not yet announced officially.
