- Description: Hilton points are worth little each, but its free night certificates are among the least restricted of any major hotel chain. How the program works in 2026, every Hilton credit card, and the resorts where a single certificate goes furthest.

Hilton Honors looks unremarkable on paper. Its points are worth about 0.4¢ each, the lowest of the big three chains, and award prices move with demand. Two things change the picture: status is easy to get, and the Free Night Rewards from Hilton’s credit cards are not capped by category or points price. One certificate can book a standard room at Hilton’s most expensive resorts, which no Marriott or Hyatt certificate can do.

## How award prices work

Hilton has no award chart. Its terms say reward prices change with the hotel, daily demand and the cash rate, "in real time". Standard rooms start at 5,000 points. Hilton publishes no maximum, and prices at its most sought-after resorts vary by date; search hilton.com with points before transferring.

1. Standard Room Rewards
The everyday award, at the price shown on hilton.com. No blackout dates, and no resort fees on stays paid entirely with points, according to Hilton.
2. The fifth night free
Silver members and above get every fifth night free on all-points standard-room stays of five nights or more, up to four free nights per stay. Silver comes with the no-fee Hilton card, so this is open to almost anyone.
3. Points & Money
Part points, part cash, from 5,000 points. Rarely good value at luxury hotels, and it does not get the fifth night free.
4. Premium Room Rewards
Suites and better rooms on points, priced above standard rooms. Rarely the best use of points.

20%

## Free Night Rewards: why Hilton’s are different

A Hilton Free Night Reward covers one night in a standard room at participating hotels worldwide. Unlike Marriott’s certificates (capped at a points price) and Hyatt’s (capped by category), Hilton’s are not limited by how many points the night would cost.

| Certificate | Covers | Limit |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Hilton Free Night Reward | A standard room at almost any Hilton | None on price; a standard room reward must be available |
| Marriott Free Night Award | A night up to 35,000, 50,000 or 85,000 points | Points cap, with a top-up allowed |
| Hyatt card free night | A Category 1–4 hotel | Category cap |

The fine print

- A **standard room reward must be available** on the date, so flexibility matters.
- **Booking is by phone:** Hilton’s terms say to call 1-800-446-6677 and quote the certificate code.
- Certificates generally **expire one year** from issue. Each covers one standard room night and can be added to an existing paid or points stay.
- A few dozen properties are excluded, mostly Hilton Grand Vacations and Hilton Vacation Club resorts.

### Which cards give one

| Card | Annual fee | Free nights |
| --------------------------------------- | ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Hilton Honors American Express Aspire | $550 | One every year, plus one after $30,000 and another after $60,000 of purchases in a calendar year |
| Hilton Honors American Express Surpass | $150 | One after $15,000 of purchases in a calendar year (plus one with the current welcome offer) |
| Hilton Honors American Express Business | $195 | One with the current welcome offer only |
| Hilton Honors American Express Card | $0 | One with the current welcome offer only |

## Where one certificate goes furthest

Points prices at these hotels change by date, so none are listed here; search hilton.com with points for specific dates before transferring. Each takes a single Free Night Reward for a standard room. Hotel descriptions are from Hilton’s hotel pages.

The certificate math

At TPG’s valuation of 0.4¢ a point, every 100,000 points of a night’s price is worth about $400\. The Aspire’s annual certificate alone can be worth more than its $550 fee, for anyone willing to plan a trip around it.

## Status: Silver to Diamond Reserve

Hilton rebuilt its tiers on January 1, 2026: status now comes from nights, stays or spending at Hilton, base points no longer count, and Gold and Diamond need fewer nights than before. A new top tier, Diamond Reserve, sits above Diamond.

1. 01
### Silver
10 nights, 4 stays or $2,500

  - 20% bonus points
  - The fifth night free on award stays
  - Free with the no-fee Hilton card

  - 80% bonus points
  - Daily food and beverage credit in the U.S., breakfast elsewhere
  - Upgrades up to executive floor rooms
  - Free with the Surpass and Business cards, or the no-fee card after $20,000 of spending in a year
3. 03
### Diamond
50 nights, 25 stays or $11,500

  - 100% bonus points
  - Executive lounge access
  - Upgrades up to a one-bedroom suite
  - 48-hour room guarantee
  - Free with the Aspire, or the Surpass and Business cards after $40,000 of spending in a year
4. 04
### Diamond Reserve
80 nights or 40 stays, and $18,000

  - 120% bonus points
  - A confirmable suite upgrade
  - Guaranteed 4pm checkout
  - Premium club access where available
Not available through any card

In the U.S., the daily food and beverage credit runs from $10 a night at Hilton Garden Inn to $25 at luxury hotels, per person for up to two guests, according to Hilton. Hilton also pays 10,000 bonus points for every 10 nights from 40 nights a year, plus 30,000 at 60 nights and a choice of 30,000 points or a confirmable upgrade at 120.

## How to earn Hilton points

1. Use a Hilton card
From 3x on everything to 14x at Hilton hotels on the Aspire. The large numbers flatter: at 0.4¢ a point, 3x is about 1.2¢ per dollar.
2. Stay
10 base points per dollar at most brands, 5 at Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Tru and a few others, plus 20–120% for elite members.
3. Transfer, carefully
American Express Membership Rewards at 1:2 (1,000 become 2,000) and Bilt at 1:1\. At typical values, both are poor exchanges unless a transfer bonus applies and a specific booking needs topping up.

Points expire after 24 months without activity, according to Hilton. Members can pool points with family and friends.

## The credit cards

All four U.S. Hilton cards are issued by American Express, and all carry elevated welcome offers until January 13, 2027, according to Hilton.

Where it shines

- Free Night Rewards with no category or points cap
- The fifth night free for anyone with Silver status, which the no-fee card provides
- Easy status: Gold and Diamond come with cards
- No resort fees on all-points stays

Where it falls short

- Points are worth about 0.4¢ each, so big multipliers flatter
- Fully dynamic pricing, with no published maximum at luxury resorts
- Certificates need a standard room to be available on the date, and must be booked by phone
- Bank transfers into Hilton rarely make sense without a bonus

The Atelier Take

Collect Hilton certificates, not Hilton points: the right card and one well-chosen resort night can be worth more than the fee.
